Taiwan’s Digital Ministry Plans to Add About 100 GPUs to Expand AI Computing Capacity

Taiwan’s Ministry of Digital Affairs provides government-built AI computing resources free of charge to local AI startups and software companies for model training and product development, reducing the cost of acquiring high-end GPUs and lowering technical barriers. As generative AI applications grow rapidly, computing capacity and a stable power supply have become critical infrastructure for the industry.

The ministry plans to purchase about 100 additional GPUs in 2026, raising its total from about 45 to 145. Minister of Digital Affairs Lin Yi-jing said the government is working to designate AI computing centers as major public infrastructure and coordinating power supplies. The ministry is also discussing with the Financial Supervisory Commission whether to allow insurers to invest in AI computing infrastructure.
