Huawei Unveils AI-Powered Optical Network Upgrades at MWC 2026

Telecommunications operators are increasingly deploying artificial intelligence to improve network planning, performance and maintenance as data traffic and enterprise demand rise. Huawei Technologies says the next decade will usher in an era of intelligent connectivity, requiring carriers to combine all-optical infrastructure, 5G-Advanced, or 5G-A, and AI. The strategy is aimed at supporting industrial digitalization while laying technical and commercial groundwork for future 6G services.

At MWC 2026, Huawei unveiled solutions it calls “AI for Networks” and “Networks for AI,” applying algorithms to raise Wi-Fi speeds and improve optical-network transmission performance and reach. The systems are also designed to pinpoint faults more accurately and make maintenance more efficient. Huawei said deeper integration of 5G-A and AI could accelerate industry upgrades, while the company continues to explore commercially viable 6G use cases.
