TSMC Exits Arm Stake With $174 Million Gain, Freeing Funds for Advanced Process R&D
TSMC invested about $100 million in Arm Holdings when the company listed on the Nasdaq in the United States in September 2023, deepening its relationship with the chip architecture supplier. Arm technology is widely used in mobile and AI chips, and AI-driven gains in its share price generated a substantial return for TSMC.
TSMC announced on February 13, 2025, that its subsidiary TSMC Global had sold its entire Arm stake for about $274 million, realizing a gain of roughly $174 million. The proceeds can support further research and development and capital spending on advanced processes below 2 nanometers, strengthening TSMC's position in AI chip foundry services.
