Cybersecurity Experts Oppose US Ban on Foreign Access to Anthropic AI Models

Anthropic’s Claude Fable and Mythos models can help cybersecurity professionals analyze code, identify vulnerabilities and accelerate fixes. The US Commerce Department’s ban on access by foreign nationals could weaken the global research community’s defensive capabilities and restrict cross-border collaboration, prompting a backlash from cybersecurity experts.

On June 16, more than 100 cybersecurity experts published an open letter urging the US Commerce Department to lift the ban on foreign access to Claude Fable and Mythos. The signatories warned that attackers are rapidly improving their AI capabilities and that depriving defenders of tools used to find and fix vulnerabilities could instead increase security risks.
