Google Adds Gemini Spending Analysis to Google Pay in India
Google Pay is one of India’s leading apps for payments over the Unified Payments Interface, giving Google a large base of transaction data from everyday transfers and purchases. Embedding Gemini in the service pushes generative AI beyond general-purpose queries into personal finance, where the value of tailored insights comes with heightened concerns over privacy, accuracy and the boundary between education and regulated financial advice.
Google announced Ask GPay in India on July 29, 2026, initially rolling it out to a limited number of users. After enabling personalization, customers can ask Gemini to analyze Google Pay transaction history and CIBIL credit-report data, explain spending patterns, suggest ways to save, explore card offers and learn about topics such as systematic investment plans. Google said the assistant cannot execute payments, is not a registered financial adviser and does not use customer data to train its AI models; no fee or transaction threshold was disclosed.
