Jack Dorsey Plans April 6 Bitcoin Faucet Revival in Tribute to Gavin Andresen

The “Bitcoin faucet” originated as a website launched by early developer Gavin Andresen in 2010 that gave away free Bitcoin in small amounts, lowering the barrier for the public to try it. Block co-founder Jack Dorsey's revival of the concept pays tribute to Andresen while recreating the spirit of Bitcoin's early promotion.

Dorsey said Block would relaunch the Bitcoin faucet through btc.day on April 6, 2026, with plans to give away a total of $1 million worth of BTC. The announcement came as Bitcoin was experiencing a marked downturn not seen since 2018, with the price consolidating near $67,000 and fueling widespread discussion in the community.
