ChatGPT Market Share Falls Below 50% for First Time as Gemini and Claude Gain Ground

OpenAI's ChatGPT has long led the generative AI assistant market, but Google Gemini and Anthropic Claude have continued to expand their models, product integrations and enterprise services. Sensor Tower's 2026 AI report shows that the market is shifting from dominance by a single platform to a three-way contest for users and paid subscriptions.

Sensor Tower's 2026 report said ChatGPT's global market share fell below 50% for the first time, declining to 46.4%. Although it still had the largest number of monthly active users, Gemini was rapidly narrowing its lead. Claude, meanwhile, differentiated itself by recording the highest paid-user rate of the three, formally ushering in a three-way race among ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude.
