Wells Fargo Files WFUSD Trademark for Crypto Trading and Payments

4 reports · First detected 2026-03-11 · Last active 2026-03-12

Wells Fargo is a major traditional US bank, while the financial industry has increasingly experimented with tokenization, stablecoins and blockchain-based payments in recent years. The name “WFUSD” suggests a link to the US dollar and, if developed into a product, could extend the bank’s existing payment and custody capabilities into digital assets. For now, the trademark application signals strategic intent and does not mean a product has been launched.

Wells Fargo applied to register “WFUSD” with the US Patent and Trademark Office, or USPTO, on March 10, 2026. The filing, serial number 99693533, covers cryptocurrency trading, electronic funds transfers, payment processing, staking software and NFT access tools. No investment amount was disclosed. The USPTO issued a nonfinal office action on July 1 requiring a response within three months, and the application remains pending.
