NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang Tests Self-Driving Mercedes-Benz CLA, Showcasing Alpamayo AI and Safety Technology
NVIDIA is bringing generative and end-to-end AI to the automotive industry, integrating its own chips, sensors and software through its Hyperion platform. The Mercedes-Benz CLA serves as a real-world demonstration vehicle, while the Alpamayo model focuses on assessing complex road conditions and making safety-critical decisions. The technology is seen as an important foundation for advancing Level 3 and Level 4 autonomous driving.
NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang recently joined autonomous-driving chief Xinzhou Wu for a road test in San Francisco of a Mercedes-Benz CLA equipped with the Alpamayo system. The demonstration showed how the vehicle handles urban traffic and unexpected situations. The system also uses cloud-based simulation to accelerate data validation and model iteration. Reports have not disclosed the exact test date, commercialization timeline or investment amount.
