Yann LeCun Calls Musk's xAI a Failure, Warns of AI Bubble Risks

Elon Musk founded xAI in 2023 to challenge OpenAI and Anthropic with Grok. In a CNBC interview published on June 18, 2026, LeCun said all 11 of xAI's co-founders had left, making it difficult for the company to continue competing in frontier models. He said xAI had instead begun renting computing capacity at its Colossus data center in Memphis to Google and Anthropic to recoup costs; the value of the leases was not disclosed. He warned that the AI bubble could burst unless OpenAI and Anthropic raise prices or cut costs.
