Linux Foundation Plans ANS to Establish Trusted Identities for AI Agents

1 reports · First detected 2026-06-26 · Last active 2026-06-26

As AI agents begin performing tasks across websites and organizations, verifying their identities, authorization scopes and service origins has become critical to security and interoperability. The Linux Foundation plans to develop an Agent Name System, or ANS, using open standards to address the lack of a unified mechanism for identifying agents on today’s internet.

The Linux Foundation recently outlined plans for ANS, which would use existing Domain Name System, or DNS, infrastructure to support identity verification, service discovery and permission management for AI agents. As of July 20, 2026, no formal launch date, list of participating organizations or investment amount had been disclosed.
