Apple Unveils AI-Engineered iPhone Duo Foldable

Foldable smartphones have struggled with hinge wear, visible creases and tight manufacturing tolerances, making durability a central obstacle to wider adoption. Apple is entering the category for the first time with the iPhone Duo, using artificial intelligence algorithms and 3D printing in the design and production of its hinge. The approach underscores Apple’s effort to distinguish its debut foldable through materials engineering and manufacturing precision.

Apple said AI is used to pair hinge components more precisely and eliminate residual rippling across the folding surface, improving both durability and flatness. The iPhone Duo will start at NT$74,900 in Taiwan and is scheduled to go on sale in October. The launch places Apple at the premium end of the foldable market and will test whether its engineering claims can justify the price.
