Sony Bank Wins U.S. Approval to Establish Trust Bank and Issue Stablecoin
Sony Bank, a major financial-services arm of Japanese technology giant Sony Group, is entering digital assets in a move that signals traditional institutions are accelerating their embrace of the Web3 ecosystem. It also highlights the group’s ambition to integrate entertainment and finance. The move would make it one of the first multinational companies to issue its own U.S. dollar stablecoin, laying important groundwork for future global digital payments.
The U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency has granted Sony Bank conditional approval to establish Connectia Trust, a trust subsidiary that will operate as a national trust bank in the United States. The institution is expected to formally open in 2027, when it will begin issuing its own U.S. dollar stablecoin and building the group’s digital-asset infrastructure.
