$83 Trillion Global Wealth Transfer Puts Taiwan Family Businesses at Succession Crossroads
UBS estimates that $83 trillion in wealth will pass between generations worldwide over the next 30 years. Many family businesses in Taiwan are grappling with founder succession, ownership arrangements and continuity of control. The outcome will affect not only family wealth but also corporate governance and the stability of workforces and supply chains.
As of July 2026, UBS and other financial institutions are expanding family-office services to help businesses manage succession through trusts, ownership planning and governance structures. These efforts also align with the Taiwan government's initiative to develop an “Asian Asset Management Center” and respond to a new generation's expectations for involvement in decision-making, sustainable investment and transparent governance.
