Tesla Upgrades AI4 Plus Hardware With 64GB of Memory in Push Toward Full Autonomy

Tesla continues to advance Full Self-Driving (FSD) through its proprietary in-vehicle computing platform. Its goal is to move beyond the current system, which still requires driver supervision, toward Level 4 autonomy under specific conditions. Computing power and memory capacity are essential for image processing and AI model operation, making them a critical foundation for upgraded autonomous-driving capabilities.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently said the AI4 Plus in-vehicle hardware will feature 64GB of system memory, twice the capacity of AI4, to support unsupervised FSD. Tesla has yet to announce when the hardware will be introduced in new vehicles or how they will be priced. The next-generation AI5 processor is slated to use TSMC’s 3-nanometer process, with supply expected to begin in 2027.
