Ether Supply on Exchanges Falls to Multi-Year Low, Raising Prospect of Supply Crunch
Ether (ETH) holdings on centralized exchanges are widely viewed as a gauge of supply available for immediate sale. Exchange liquidity declines when investors move assets into self-custody wallets, staking or DeFi. If buying demand suddenly strengthens, a supply shortage could amplify ETH price swings, making changes in reserves at major platforms such as Binance particularly important.
More than 31 million ETH flowed out of centralized exchanges in February this year, marking the largest monthly withdrawal volume since November 2022. Over the same period, Binance's ETH reserves fell to their lowest level since 2020. The data point to a continued contraction in tradable supply on exchanges, but whether that drives prices higher will still depend on subsequent demand and broader market activity.
