6 reports · First detected 2026-04-19 · Last active 2026-04-22

Taiwan's banking industry is extending credit card rewards into digital assets. KGI Bank launched its Coin Rewards Card in March 2025, linking it to the MAX and BitoPro exchanges. Cardholders can convert points earned from purchases into Bitcoin, Ether and USDT, lowering the barrier to holding small amounts of cryptocurrency while helping the bank reach younger customers and crypto users.

Union Bank of Taiwan and MaiCoin launched the U Coin co-branded card on April 22, 2026, offering rewards of up to 4.5% in U Coins. Each U Coin can be exchanged for NT$1 worth of Bitcoin, Ether, USDT, USDC or MAX Token. Union Bank set an initial target of issuing 20,000 cards, highlighting how traditional financial institutions are moving faster to channel everyday spending rewards into crypto assets.
