Naval Says AI Agents Are Fueling Vibe Coding Wave, Challenging Apple’s Ecosystem Edge

AI coding agents have evolved in recent years from code-completion assistants into tools that can plan, write and modify software based on natural-language instructions, fueling the concept of “vibe coding.” Silicon Valley investor Naval Ravikant believes enabling anyone to build personalized apps could erode the ecosystem advantage Apple has built through the App Store’s review and revenue-sharing systems. OpenAI co-founder Andrej Karpathy coined the term “vibe coding” in 2025.

Ravikant recently said AI coding agents have crossed a critical threshold, allowing users to describe what they need and quickly generate apps tailored to their personal workflows without first acquiring comprehensive programming skills. He believes the App Store model of centralized distribution, review and fees will face challenges when software can be created on demand for individual needs. Reports did not disclose any investment amount, specific launch date or quantitative adoption data.
