AI Drives Paradigm Shift in Red-Teaming and Cyber Defense

Red-team exercises simulate attacks to help companies test their defenses, procedures and staff response capabilities. Cybersecurity firm DEVCORE said generative AI is increasingly being used in reconnaissance, vulnerability analysis and payload creation. This is shifting red teaming from manual operations toward human-machine collaboration while putting pressure on traditional testing services and cybersecurity training to adapt.

DEVCORE’s latest assessment did not disclose a specific publication date, investment amount or number of companies adopting the technology, but outlined a path for its evolution. AI will initially support automated intelligence gathering and payload generation before gradually expanding into attack decision-making. The shift could make exercises faster and more realistic while forcing defenders to strengthen AI threat detection and automated response capabilities.
