Cambodia's Fintech Sector Continues to Grow in 2026
Cambodia's mobile-first fintech sector has leapfrogged traditional banking infrastructure. The National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) launched the blockchain-based Bakong payment platform in October 2020, backed by the government's Digital Economy and Society Policy Framework 2021–2035. Bakong's importance lies in connecting banks, microfinance institutions and payment providers, expanding access to financial services.
The Fintech Times reported on April 5, 2026, that Cambodia had about 70–90 fintech companies. The NBC's 2025 annual report showed that Bakong processed 1.32565 billion transactions during the year. These included 554.5 million U.S. dollar transactions worth $152.8 billion, up 49.3% year on year, and 771.2 million riel transactions worth 285.9 trillion riel, up 59.4%.
