Securitize and tZERO Clash Over Tokenized Securities Patents

2 reports · First detected 2026-06-23 · Last active 2026-06-23

Tokenization records ownership interests in stocks, bonds and funds on a blockchain. Securitize and tZERO both provide regulated infrastructure for issuance, transfers and trading. Securitize manages more than $4 billion in tokenized assets, while tZERO says it holds 23 patent families comprising 105 patents worldwide. The boundaries of those patents could affect adoption costs and competition among Wall Street firms.

tZERO served a cease-and-desist letter on June 15, 2026, alleging that Securitize's DS Protocol and Vault Registrar infringed U.S. Patent Nos. 11,216,802 and 11,394,560. Securitize filed suit in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware on June 22, paying a $405 filing fee and seeking a declaration of non-infringement and a jury trial.
