Stripe Acquires Clerky to Expand Startup Legal Services

3 reports · First detected 2026-09-01 · Last active 2026-09-02

Founded in 2011, Clerky provides software that automates legal paperwork for startup incorporation, fundraising, hiring and corporate maintenance. The acquisition broadens Stripe’s startup offering beyond payments and Stripe Atlas, its company-formation service launched in 2016. Clerky adds customizable documents and workflows that allow attorneys to work alongside founders, giving Stripe a deeper foothold in legal technology and ongoing corporate administration.

Clerky said on Aug. 26, 2026, that it had agreed to join Stripe. Financial terms were not disclosed, and Clerky said its existing team would continue serving startups and attorneys. The company said businesses formed through its platform account for 23% of Silicon Valley seed and pre-seed financings and have raised more than $140 billion in aggregate venture capital. Startup formations on Clerky grew 6.5 times faster over the past year than their historical average.
