Microsoft Releases .NET Framework for Packaging Agent Skills
Microsoft Agent Framework is the company's agent-development framework for enterprise teams. The newly added Agent Skills for .NET lets developers package domain knowledge, operating instructions and scripts into reusable skills that can be loaded on demand. This prevents large volumes of data from remaining in the context and increasing the model's processing burden. Enterprises can also use the feature to manage agent capabilities and permissions consistently.
Microsoft recently formally released Agent Skills for .NET, enabling .NET teams to create, publish and load skills within Microsoft Agent Framework. The initial release includes governance controls such as human approval and secure isolation to reduce the risks of agents carrying out sensitive operations. Reports did not provide an exact release date, version number or any financial figures.

Microsoft Agent Framework is an open-source SDK that draws on Microsoft’s experience with Semantic Kernel and AutoGen. It is designed to give enterprises a consistent interface for building, managing and scaling AI agent systems. The unified framework can reduce the integration costs of using multiple technologies while making agent collaboration, tool access and workflow governance easier to implement.
As of July 20, 2026, Microsoft has formally released the stable 1.0 version of Microsoft Agent Framework, with support for both .NET and Python. The new version incorporates the MCP protocol and offers several multi-agent orchestration patterns to improve the division of tasks, collaboration and external tool calls among agents. Microsoft did not disclose any investment amount or pricing plan for the release.
