SpaceX, CoreWeave Plan Direct AI Server Purchases From Taiwan ODMs
AI server orders have traditionally flowed through branded vendors such as Dell, which outsource manufacturing to Taiwan-based original design manufacturers. As major computing customers expand infrastructure, buying directly from ODMs could shorten supply chains and give purchasers greater control over pricing and deployment. That makes the sourcing plans of SpaceX and CoreWeave significant for both Taiwan’s server industry and incumbent vendor Dell.
Jefferies said in its latest supply-chain survey that SpaceX and CoreWeave plan to bypass Dell starting in 2027 and procure NVIDIA Vera Rubin-based AI servers directly from Taiwan ODMs including Foxconn and Quanta. The report did not disclose the value or volume of the planned purchases. The shift could boost orders across Taiwan’s manufacturing supply chain while putting pressure on Dell’s share of the two customers’ AI server spending.
