AI Drives Taiwan Stocks to Record High as ETFs Rally

AI capital spending has become a long-term driver of Taiwan stocks. Taishin Securities Investment Trust fund manager Wei Yung-hsiang estimates that earnings across Taiwan’s AI supply chain could still grow by 20%–60% in 2026. PGIM Prudential fund manager Kuo Ming-yu is bullish on advanced manufacturing processes, equipment and the server supply chain, saying TSMC’s capacity expansion could sustain momentum in Taiwan equity ETFs.

After geopolitical concerns eased, Taiwan stocks surged 1,451 points on April 1, the second-largest point gain on record. The 10 best-performing active and passive ETFs each rose more than 5%. The index gained another 556.67 points on April 10 to close at a record 35,417.83. Taiwan’s three major institutional investor groups recorded combined net purchases of NT$257.076 billion that week, while the benchmark advanced 8.74%.

As global AI advances from generative models to agentic AI and robotics, cloud providers continue to expand data centers, boosting demand for AI chips, advanced packaging, memory, ASICs and IP. Active ETFs have been listing in Taiwan since 2025. Unlike passive ETFs that track indexes, their managers actively select stocks and adjust holdings. Taiwan's benchmark index surpassed 35,000 points for the first time, led by TSMC and AI supply-chain stocks in areas including liquid cooling and optical communications. The rally also amplified the returns and market attention generated by active stock-picking strategies.

On February 25, 2026, the combined market capitalization of 21 active ETFs rose to NT$237.26 billion, while 14 funds reached record share prices, including 11 Taiwan-equity and three overseas-equity ETFs. Uni-President Taiwan Growth Active ETF (00981A), managed by Uni-President Asset Management, closed at NT$20.02, up 3.52% for the day. It had gained 102.43% since listing on May 27, 2025, doubling in less than nine months.
