Intel Reportedly Expands TSMC 2-Nanometer Use for Next-Generation Chips
Intel is seeking to restore its competitiveness in personal-computer processors while advancing its own Intel 18A manufacturing process and selectively using outside foundries. A hybrid production strategy would give the US chipmaker greater design flexibility and reduce execution risks as it challenges Advanced Micro Devices in premium PCs, artificial intelligence workloads and high-performance computing. The approach would also deepen Intel’s reliance on Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. for leading-edge capacity.
Supply-chain reports say Intel’s next-generation Nova Lake and Razor Lake desktop processors could combine Intel 18A with TSMC’s N2P and N2X processes, both part of the foundry’s 2-nanometer technology family. Intel and TSMC have not confirmed the reported product allocations, production shares or launch timetable. If implemented, the plan would broaden Intel’s use of external manufacturing and could lift demand across Taiwan’s semiconductor materials, equipment, advanced packaging and component suppliers.
