German AI Startup SE3 Labs Helps Military Drones Break Reliance on GPS

Munich-based AI startup SE3 Labs is developing a “spatial AI platform” that uses onboard cameras and inertial sensors to reduce reliance on satellite signals such as GPS. The technology allows military drones to maintain positioning and navigate autonomously when signals are jammed or unavailable. Such capabilities are critical to mission resilience in electronic warfare and could accelerate reconnaissance, identification and strike decisions.

SE3 Labs has signed a contract with Germany’s Bundeswehr and deployed the system in military exercises. Uncrewed vehicles can navigate using only onboard sensor data, reportedly cutting the time from detection to strike by about tenfold. Reports did not disclose the contract value, signing date, exercise dates or testing benchmarks, leaving the performance claims subject to verification through further public data.
