ZachXBT Exposes Fake X Accounts Using AI and War Content to Fuel Crypto Scams
X’s engagement mechanisms can rapidly amplify inflammatory war reports. Scammers then use accounts with established followings and AI-generated personas to impersonate influencers, converting that trust into cryptocurrency trades. An investigation by on-chain sleuth ZachXBT found that disinformation, account manipulation, and meme-coin promotion had become parts of a single profit-making operation, also highlighting governance risks at X.
ZachXBT said on March 23, 2026, that the network involved 11 X accounts. One post falsely claiming that Iran had threatened to sever the world’s undersea internet cables drew 1.8 million views. On February 22, 10 of the accounts simultaneously promoted the Solana-based $ORAMAMA token before ceasing to mention it. On-chain evidence showed six-figure profits in US dollars, or at least $100,000.
