Taiwan Prioritizes Crypto Rules and Stablecoin Development

2 reports · First detected 2026-08-28 · Last active 2026-09-02

Taiwan is moving to establish a dedicated regulatory framework for virtual-asset services as crypto trading and stablecoins become more closely connected with payments and traditional finance. The initiative is significant because it seeks to strengthen market oversight, consumer protection and risk controls while preserving room for financial innovation under clearer rules.

Financial Supervisory Commission Chairperson Peng Chin-lung said improving the regulatory system for virtual-asset service providers is now a policy priority, with rules to be adjusted as the market evolves. The Virtual Asset Service Act is expected to take effect in 2027, covering key supervisory requirements and major policy questions including the planned opening of stablecoin issuance.
