Microsoft Expands Discovery Preview to Bring Agentic AI to Corporate R&D

Microsoft Discovery is an AI platform developed for corporate research and development. It combines multi-agent collaboration, reasoning models and high-performance computing to generate hypotheses, plan validation and iteratively refine results. The platform extends agentic AI beyond office automation into scientific research and engineering workflows, potentially shortening development cycles for materials, processes and product designs.

As of July 20, 2026, Microsoft had expanded the Microsoft Discovery preview and disclosed that the platform was being used for data-center cooling technology, engineering simulations and semiconductor chip design. The update did not include pricing, investment figures or a formal launch date. For now, the focus is on allowing more companies to test how effectively AI agents can generate and validate hypotheses.
