Veriff and Uphold Push Risk-Based Identity Checks Beyond Onboarding

1 reports · First detected 2026-08-12 · Last active 2026-08-12

Digital finance platforms have traditionally treated know-your-customer checks as a gate at account opening. Veriff and multi-asset platform Uphold argue that identity assurance must instead extend across logins, funding, trading and account recovery as takeover attempts and transaction risks evolve. A risk-based approach matters because indiscriminate checks can drive away legitimate customers, depress conversion and retention, and increase the workload and cost of customer support teams.

At a PYMNTS event on Aug. 10, 2026, Veriff Chief Technology Officer Hubert Behaghel and Uphold Chief Information Officer Christopher Adjei-Ampofo discussed adding verification when transaction or behavioral signals warrant greater scrutiny, rather than forcing every user through repeated KYC. The one-hour session also examined reusable digital identity that could unlock crypto, equities, precious metals and funding sources after a single verification. No investment or partnership amount was announced, while fragmented regulations across markets remained a major obstacle to portability.
