Tether Registers Trademarks in South Korea, Eyes Local Unit for Compliance
Tether, issuer of USDT, the world’s largest U.S. dollar stablecoin, is expanding its footprint into South Korea’s active crypto market. As the country advances its Digital Asset Basic Act, the market expects stablecoin operators to be required to establish local legal entities and compliance systems. Tether’s trademark filings are therefore seen as groundwork for a formal market entry.
Tether recently applied to register seven trademarks in South Korea, covering its official logo and brands including the gold-backed stablecoin Tether Gold (XAUT). The event data did not disclose the exact filing dates or any associated amounts. Market observers believe Tether may next establish a South Korean subsidiary to prepare for the law’s regulatory and operational requirements.
