Chinese internet platforms are tightening controls on generative AI content, with operators including WeChat and Douyin targeting the replacement of human creators with AI and automated mass posting. The crackdown touches on content authenticity, copyright and traffic allocation, and could change how short-video, web-drama and self-media accounts operate.

WeChat recently updated its content rules to require creators to disclose their use of AI assistance. It may delete posts or purge accounts in bulk when content is unlabeled, contains factual errors or is published at scale using automated tools. Douyin has also reportedly intensified scrutiny of AI-generated web dramas, with violators potentially facing account bans. Reports did not disclose the exact enforcement date, the number of accounts removed or any monetary amounts involved.
