AI Demand Fuels Global Chip Sales Surge, With 2026 Total Forecast to Top $1 Trillion

1 reports · First detected 2026-06-03 · Last active 2026-06-03

Investment in AI infrastructure is driving the global semiconductor market as major technology companies continue to expand AI server and data center capacity, boosting demand for GPUs, logic chips and high-bandwidth memory. The World Semiconductor Trade Statistics organization’s forecast is therefore closely watched as an indicator of supply-chain conditions and future capacity allocation.

WSTS has sharply raised its latest forecast for global semiconductor sales in 2026 to $1.5 trillion, up about 90% from its 2025 estimate. Sales would surpass $1 trillion for the first time and could set a record. Memory and logic chips such as GPUs are expected to lead the increase, with continued spending by technology giants on AI computing infrastructure remaining the main growth engine.

Global Semiconductor and AI Infrastructure Investment Outlook for 20262026-05-14 · 1 reports · similarity 0.84

Generative AI is driving data-center expansion and lifting demand for advanced GPUs, foundry services and high-bandwidth memory. Nvidia dominates the AI accelerator market, while TSMC leads in advanced process technology and packaging. The two companies have therefore become key indicators for tracking the semiconductor cycle and the industry’s transformation in 2026.

The latest outlook projects the global semiconductor market will exceed $975 billion in 2026, with demand driven primarily by more than $600 billion in combined AI infrastructure spending by five major cloud companies. Investment is concentrating on computing chips, data centers and advanced packaging, further entrenching supply-chain leaders such as Nvidia and TSMC.

IDC Forecasts Global Semiconductor Revenue to Jump More Than 50% This Year2026-05-07 · 1 reports · similarity 0.81

Continued growth in generative AI and data-center investment is boosting demand for AI accelerators, high-bandwidth memory and storage chips. International Data Corporation (IDC) said the semiconductor industry is shifting from a cyclical recovery to AI-driven growth, with its forecast also shaping the outlook for foundries, memory-chip makers and equipment suppliers.

In its latest 2026 forecast, IDC said global semiconductor revenue would reach $1.29 trillion this year, up 52.8% from 2025. Memory is expected to post the strongest growth as demand from AI servers rises, with DRAM revenue forecast to increase 177% year on year and NAND revenue projected to climb 138.5%.
