US Government-Linked Wallet Reawakens, Sends Bitcoin to Exchange

1 reports · First detected 2026-07-14 · Last active 2026-07-14

The U.S. government has seized large amounts of cryptocurrency in cybercrime crackdowns, making it one of the world’s largest Bitcoin holders. Flows from government-controlled wallets are closely watched as market signals. When these long-dormant “whale wallets” move assets to exchanges, investors often see it as a sign of an impending large-scale selloff, fueling fears of falling prices and drawing intense scrutiny from the crypto community and financial markets.

Onchain data showed that a cryptocurrency wallet linked to the U.S. government suddenly became active on July 13, 2026, after lying dormant for four years. It transferred 140.214 Bitcoin, worth about $8.79 million, to the Coinbase Prime cryptocurrency exchange. The move triggered a chain reaction, with the government transferring nearly $300 million in crypto assets over the following several days and putting the community on high alert.
