Worldcoin Expands Iris-Scanning Technology to Zoom and Docusign to Combat Deepfakes
World, formerly known as Worldcoin, was co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. Its Orb devices scan users’ irises to generate a World ID, providing “proof of human” to distinguish people from AI. The rise of deepfakes and automated accounts has increased the risk of identity fraud on videoconferencing, electronic-signature and dating platforms, while drawing greater scrutiny to privacy and regulatory concerns surrounding biometrics.
World announced on May 1, 2025, that it would expand World ID verification to Zoom, Docusign and Tinder. It also introduced Concert Kit to combat bots and ticket scalpers. The partnerships failed to lift the market, with the Worldcoin token WLD falling more than 13% over the following 24 hours as investors remained concerned about the pace of adoption and regulatory risks.

World, formerly Worldcoin, is a crypto identity project co-founded by Sam Altman. Its developer, Tools for Humanity, uses the Orb to scan irises and create World IDs designed to distinguish humans in the AI era. The company is valued at $2.5 billion and has raised about $240 million, but its collection of biometric data and its consent and deletion procedures have drawn regulatory scrutiny worldwide.
Tools for Humanity announced layoffs in an internal memo on June 8, 2026. The company has more than 500 employees but did not disclose how many jobs would be cut. The Orb has been banned or restricted in Brazil, Kenya, the Philippines, Thailand, Spain and Hong Kong. WLD was trading at about $0.48 at the time, down more than 97% from its peak. The World Foundation sold $65 million of WLD in March, while further token unlocks were still set to add pressure in July.
