Yield Guild Games Shuts YGG Play, Cuts 35 Jobs in AI Data Pivot
Yield Guild Games rose to prominence as a Web3 gaming guild built around play-to-earn economies, then launched YGG Play in 2025 to publish casual titles for crypto-native users. The retreat underscores the strain on GameFi as weak digital-asset markets and difficult game-publishing economics erode demand. YGG is now betting that behavioral data generated by players can become a business-to-business product for developers training artificial intelligence models.
YGG said on July 6, 2026, that it would shut YGG Play and eliminate 35 jobs. The unit’s website, Launchpad, LOL Land and Waifu Sweeper are due to go offline by Aug. 1, while GIGACHADBAT and Ragnarok Breaker will remain with their studios. YGG Play had generated more than $9 million in lifetime revenue by the first quarter. YGG held $20.6 million in treasury assets, and said the restructuring would extend its runway to four years as it builds a pipeline for AI training datasets.
