Bitdeer Signs $400 Million Malaysia AI Cloud Deal

1 reports · First detected 2026-08-20 · Last active 2026-08-20

Bitcoin miner Bitdeer is expanding into AI cloud infrastructure, using its access to power, data centers and computing equipment to reduce its dependence on cryptocurrency mining cycles. The move comes as generative AI drives demand for high-performance computing capacity, while miners increasingly seek steadier, longer-term revenue from infrastructure originally developed for energy-intensive digital-asset operations.

Bitdeer’s AI unit signed a five-year customer agreement worth about $400 million, covering roughly 50% of the capacity at its Malaysia facility. The contract is expected to begin contributing revenue in early 2027. Bitdeer said the commitment would also support its goal of reaching 350 megawatts of AI cloud capacity by 2028, providing a significant anchor customer for the expansion.

Bitdeer Signs $4.7 Billion Norway AI Lease With Volta2026-08-05 · 2 reports · similarity 0.81

Bitdeer, best known for Bitcoin mining and its proprietary mining rigs, has been redeploying its power and data-center portfolio toward AI cloud and high-performance computing infrastructure. The Tydal conversion is significant because it could replace volatile mining economics with long-duration contracted revenue. The project also highlights a broader industry shift as cryptocurrency miners seek to monetize scarce power connections and facilities amid surging demand for AI computing capacity.

Bitdeer said on Aug. 4, 2026, that its Tydal Data Center AS unit signed a 16-year colocation lease and services agreement with Volta subsidiary Volta Tydal AS. The contract covers 121 IT megawatts and about $4.7 billion of scheduled revenue, potentially rising to $8 billion with an eight-year extension. The two phases are targeted to begin on Dec. 31, 2026, and March 31, 2027. Bitdeer shares jumped to about $14.50 intraday after the announcement before retreating toward $12.40.
