Taiwan Insurance Regulator to Ease Pricing Data Rules
Taiwan’s rapidly aging population is increasing demand for retirement protection, long-term care and financial services designed for consumers across different life stages. The Insurance Bureau under the Financial Supervisory Commission is reviewing product rules to give insurers greater pricing flexibility, aiming to encourage technology-driven innovation and broaden access to inclusive financial products rather than limiting development to conventional actuarial approaches.
The Insurance Bureau said it plans to remove a requirement that pricing for new insurance products rely on statistical data from the most recent three to five years. Insurers would gain room to use other credible data and methodologies suited to a product’s risk profile, supporting products for older customers and the wider population. The regulator has not announced a specific implementation date, and the proposed relaxation does not include a stated monetary threshold.
