Taiwan FSC Urges Travelers to Secure Insurance Before Summer Trips
Summer is a peak travel period for Taiwanese households, exposing travelers to costs from accidents, overseas illness, flight disruptions and lost baggage. Taiwan’s Financial Supervisory Commission said basic travel accident insurance generally covers accidental disability or death, while overseas emergency medical riders and travel inconvenience policies can extend protection to medical treatment, cancellations, delays and baggage-related losses. Coverage should be tailored to each itinerary rather than treated as a standard package.
On July 23, 2026, the FSC’s Insurance Bureau urged consumers to review three main layers of protection before departure and check coverage, exclusions and claims requirements. Policies remain available through agents and physical counters, but travelers can also complete purchases through insurers’ websites or mobile apps. The regulator announced no uniform premium or insured amount, saying actual pricing and benefits depend on the provider, itinerary and coverage selected.
