Sonic’s S Token Slides 5% as Three Directors Resign
Sonic Labs develops the Sonic Layer 1 blockchain, which emerged from the Fantom ecosystem, with S serving as the network’s native utility token. The simultaneous departure of three long-standing board members, including prominent DeFi developer Andre Cronje, marks a significant shift in the project’s governance. The overhaul matters to investors because Sonic has been contending with weak token performance and diminished on-chain liquidity, making confidence in its leadership and operating strategy especially important.
Sonic Labs said on June 19, 2026, that Cronje, Michael Kong and David Richardson were resigning from its board and would no longer make business decisions after handing over their responsibilities, though they may remain advisers. The organization appointed Matt Visser as chief executive officer and Kosta Kourkoumelis as chief operating officer. Following the announcement, S fell 5% over 24 hours to about $0.031 on June 20, extending pressure on a token already trading far below its January 2025 peak.
