Bhutan Moves Another $23 Million in Bitcoin as Holdings Fall 70%
Bhutan mines Bitcoin using hydropower through state-owned Druk Holding and Investments (DHI). It once accumulated more than 10,000 BTC, becoming a major sovereign holder. On-chain tracking shows its holdings have steadily declined since late 2024, though asset transfers do not necessarily indicate sales.
In July 2026, wallets linked to DHI transferred another 319 BTC, worth about $22.68 million at the time. Tracked addresses have moved out more than 9,000 BTC since late 2024, shrinking their holdings by 70% in about 18 months. The Bhutanese government, however, says it does not recall selling any Bitcoin and disputes claims that it reduced its holdings by more than $1 billion.
