Meta Tests Data Center Robots to Support AI Expansion

Meta is expanding the data-center capacity that underpins its artificial intelligence systems, increasing the burden of routine work across servers, networking and other equipment. Robots capable of handling repetitive, standardized maintenance could help the company scale infrastructure while limiting growth in labor costs and reliance on skilled technicians. The effort reflects a wider push to automate physical operations as AI developers build larger and more complex computing facilities.

Meta is testing robots that can replace network cables, reboot servers and inspect equipment. The machines remain slower than human workers and still require supervision, limiting near-term deployment; Meta has not disclosed the trial’s start date, fleet size or cost target. Nvidia and Alibaba are separately developing AI agents and robot-simulation training systems, underscoring growing investment in automation around AI infrastructure.
