American Express to Acquire Hyper, Bolstering AI and Expense Management Services
American Express, or Amex, is expanding its corporate card business into expense management software and AI agents. Founded in 2022, Hyper uses agents to automatically categorize and report expenses and check them against budgets and company policies. The companies also launched a co-branded card in 2024, making the acquisition a deepening of their existing partnership while strengthening automation within Amex's commercial services business.
Amex announced on April 16, 2026, that it had signed an agreement to acquire Hyper. The transaction value and other terms were not disclosed, and the deal was scheduled to close in the second quarter of 2026, subject to closing conditions. Hyper's AI team will join Amex's commercial services operations. Its technology is also expected to support an expense management platform due to launch later in 2026, covering processes including expense categorization, policy checks and alerts.
