Trend Micro warned that autonomous AI attack frameworks are turning cyber intrusions from linear sequences into adaptive loops. Systems can revise reconnaissance, exploitation, lateral movement and evasion tactics in response to defensive signals, undermining security programs built around interrupting a fixed cyber kill chain. The shift matters because machine-speed adjustments leave human analysts less time to investigate alerts, coordinate controls and contain an intrusion before attackers change course.

The cybersecurity company urged businesses to adopt AI-driven automation spanning identification, detection, threat hunting and response, with Agentic XDR coordinating action across endpoints, email, cloud infrastructure and network telemetry. It also called for controls that block prompt-injection attacks and stronger governance over enterprise AI use, as defensive agents can themselves become targets for manipulation. The recommended architecture is intended to let security teams detect changing behavior continuously and intervene before autonomous attacks establish momentum.
