Qt Retires AI Assistant, Shifts to AI Agents and MCP

Qt is reshaping its generative-AI strategy for software development, moving away from a built-in assistant focused on questions and coding guidance toward general-purpose agents capable of planning and completing multi-step tasks. The shift reflects a broader industry move from isolated AI features to agent-driven workflows, while seeking to preserve the specialized Qt and QML knowledge developers need inside Qt Creator.

Qt will stop distributing Qt AI Assistant with Qt Creator at the end of September and end technical support by year-end. Qt Creator will instead connect with external tools including Claude Code and Codex through ACP and MCP protocols. The company also plans to provide dedicated Agent Skills that supply Qt- and QML-specific expertise, addressing knowledge gaps that general-purpose coding agents may have when working with the framework.
