WhiteBIT Secures Austrian MiCA License, Expands Into EU Crypto Market
The European Union's Markets in Crypto-Assets regulation, or MiCA, establishes a unified regulatory and cross-border passporting regime for crypto-asset service providers. Once licensed in one member state, a provider can serve the European Economic Area. For WhiteBIT, the approval reduces the cost of applying country by country and extends the scale advantage of parent company W Group's more than 35 million global customers into Europe.
On June 19, 2026, WhiteBIT's EU operating entity, WB-Shield Innovations GmbH, announced that it had secured MiCA authorization from Austria's Financial Market Authority, or FMA, and would launch the dedicated whitebit.eu platform. The approval came less than two weeks before the transitional period ends on July 1. After that deadline, providers still relying on legacy national registrations must obtain a MiCA license or stop serving EU customers.

The history behind this eventBybit EU Payments Arm Secures Austrian E-Money License
European regulators have tightened oversight of crypto-linked payment services, requiring operators to secure appropriate authorization before offering electronic money and cross-border transaction products. Bybit’s use of a dedicated European payments subsidiary gives the crypto exchange a regulated foundation beyond trading, potentially supporting broader everyday payment functions across the European Economic Area while reducing licensing and operational risks.
Bybit Payments GmbH, the exchange’s European payments arm, has secured an electronic money institution license from Austria’s Financial Market Authority, known as the FMA. The licensing date and any associated financial terms were not disclosed. The authorization will underpin Bybit.eu services across the European Economic Area, including card payments, merchant settlement, open banking and peer-to-peer transfers.
