OpenAI Reportedly Plans $300-Plus Doughnut-Shaped AI Device
OpenAI is seeking to extend its generative artificial intelligence business beyond software with a consumer device reportedly being developed with design firm LoveFrom. The project is significant because it could give OpenAI a dedicated platform for bringing ChatGPT and Agent capabilities into everyday home use, relying on voice interaction rather than a conventional phone or computer screen and placing the company in closer competition with established smart-speaker makers.
The planned device is roughly the size of a hockey puck and has a doughnut-like shape, according to recent reports. Expected to cost between $300 and $400, it is designed to work as a voice-driven AI companion that can access ChatGPT and carry out Agent tasks. OpenAI could introduce the product as early as 2027, though its specifications, final price and launch timetable may change as development continues.
