GLEIF Urges Verifiable Identity for AI Agents
AI agents are increasingly booking travel, transferring funds and serving customers on behalf of companies, challenging trust systems built around human oversight. Automated systems accounted for 53% of global web activity in 2025, according to GLEIF. The foundation argues that the Legal Entity Identifier, used in regulatory reporting across more than 100 jurisdictions, and its digital counterpart, the verifiable LEI, can link an agent’s actions and delegated authority to an accountable legal entity.
GLEIF Chief Executive Alexandre Kech said on Aug. 25, 2026 that model-identification research is advancing but is not yet in production, making organizational identity the more immediate anchor for accountability. GLEIF’s Global vLEI Hackathon drew more than 110 submissions, with YourData’s Agent-Anchor named runner-up in the Industry 4.0 category in December 2025. The prototype showed customers could verify a voice or chat agent’s corporate origin in real time, though it remains undeployed and no investment amount was disclosed.
