Westpac Taps Amp Frontier to Overhaul Software Engineering With AI Agents
Westpac is moving generative AI beyond employee-assistance tools and into its core software-delivery process. Amp Frontier Corporation, a San Francisco AI research lab founded in 2025, develops agents for software engineering. The partnership is significant because it brings agentic AI into the technology operations of a major regulated bank, aiming to accelerate releases while allowing Westpac engineers to spend less time on repetitive work and more on complex customer and business challenges.
Westpac announced the strategic partnership on Aug. 7, 2026. Amp will establish Amp Labs in Australia as a special-purpose company staffed by dedicated AI engineers working alongside Westpac teams. The companies plan to develop AI agents for software-engineering tasks, support major technology programs and reduce delivery times for improved digital experiences from months to weeks. Westpac did not disclose the contract’s value, duration or implementation timetable.
